Aluminium Handrails are the ideal handrail solution for harsh environments. Aluminium provides high corrosion resistance.
Which Fittings are used for Aluminium Handrails?
Kee Lite fittings are made from high grade Aluminium Silicon Magnesium Alloy, making them ideal for use in harsh environments, where corrosion resistance is important.
Kee Lite fittings and aluminium tubes provide a strong alternative to fabrication of tubular structures. Due to the superior corrosion resistance, aluminium Kee Lite railings offer extremely low maintenance solutions, particularly in outdoor settings such as coastal or exposed locations.
Features of Kee Lite Fittings
- Lightweight
- Corrosion Resistant
- Require little long-term maintenance
- Fitted with Stainless Steel recessed grub screws
- Main fittings are TÜV approved
The Benefits of Using Kee Lite Fittings for an Aluminium Handrail
- No welding, so no hot work permits are required
- Aluminium fittings are ideal for harsh environments
- No threading or bolting so no special tools required
- A flexible system that can accommodate on site variations
- Cost effective to install; no specialist labour required
How Do You Measure It Correctly?
There are some questions that you need to ask to yourself when you want to install an aluminium handrail:
- What is the layout requested?
- How tall is the handrail requirements?
- What is the substrate/floor build up?
- How are you going to fix the substrate? Use base flange fittings or core into the substrate?
- What is the approximate angle of any staircase or slope?
- If we are securing to a staircase or parapet, do you require us to mount to the side or on top?
- Is the handrail application for either industrial, commercial or public use?
The simple but effective system of tube and modular fittings makes assembly quick and easy. A standard hex key is the only tool required to tighten recessed set screws, locking the tube firmly in place to create a strong aluminium railing.
How Do You Mount Base Flanges?
When constructing with Kee Lite fittings, we recommend that you tighten the grub screw to 29 lbs./ft. or 39 Nm. This is approximately “hand-tight.” The only exception is size 6 Kee Lite fittings. The setting for tightening the grub screw for this size fitting is 25 Nm (19 lb.ft).
Specifying Kee Lite Fittings
Each fitting has a simple code reference, which defines the type of
fitting and the tube size, or sizes, it is designed to receive. The first
part, preceding the dash (-) identifies the type of Kee Lite® fitting. A
digit, following the dash, defines tube size.
What Sort of Prepping Do I need to Do?
You don’t need to do difficult prepping to install an aluminium handrail; you just need to be sure that the area is cleaned to receive the base flange or railing bracket without obstruction.
How Do I Tap in the Tube Caps?
Once you finish to assemble your aluminium handrail, you tap the tube caps into any exposed ends of the rails and posts, preferability with a rubber mallet. If you don’t have a rubber mallet, then cover the cap with a piece of cardboard to protect the metal from scratches while you tap it in with a standard hammer.
What Can You Do with Kee Lite Aluminium Railing?
Kee Lite fittings offer flexibility and can be used in a variety of applications from contemporary shop and restaurant fittings to industrial guardrails and warehouse pallet gates. Aluminium handrails have a sleek and polished look.
Unfinished concrete surfaces, metal pipes, visible ducts, high ceilings and exposed structural systems are common sights in old factories and warehouses. However, in recent years, we have seen an increasing demand for this aesthetic in both residential and commercial spaces. Some offices as well are incorporating similar design elements to make their spaces trendy and less formal.
The industry that has seen a massive adoption of this trend is the hospitality sector, especially in the past two decades. Restaurants and bars across the world are taking cues from old factories and playing with unfinished surfaces, metallic accents, industrial lights and heavy-duty hardware to create an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and modern.
Aluminium handrails safety railings are ideally suited to harsh environments, around docks, bridges or beaches where corrosion resistance is important.
