DDA Handrail System to secure access to the station
McNealy Brown was commissioned to design a system that required DDA handrails for St Marys Cray Station.
In Mid 2021 they contacted Kee Systems asking if we were interested to quote DDA Handrail system for the train station. Mc Nealy Brown issued a set of drawings, showing that the station needed DDA handrails for three different entrances.

After several changes by Network Rail, we finally agreed on the design of the system. In September 2021 the station was ready for a site survey, which was completed by our specialist team member Martin Bunn
In November 2021 the installation started, and it was fully completed in April 2022.
Handrails for people with disabilities
KEE ACCESS components are used to create safety handrails and barriers compliant with disability legislation.
Under the term of the Equality Act, reasonable adjustments need to be made to public and commercial establishments to overcome physical barriers which impede disabled access. The Building Regulations recommend outside diameter tube size for installations of between 40mm – 45mm.
KEE ACCESS components are specifically designed to give a smooth and continuous handrail which size 7 tube (outside diameter 42,4mm) ensuring compatibility with the Regulations.
All fittings can be powder coated in a choice of RAL colours to meet the visibility and “not cold to the touch” requirements of the Building Regulations. These fittings are ideal as a retrofit solution, because the range includes an “Add-on” offset fitting to allow a new handrail to be added onto an existing structure of appropriate size.

Features & Benefits
- Meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and Building Regulation Approved Document M
- Combining 42.2mm handrail with 48.3mm uprights ensures a rigid, sturdy installation
- Add-on components allow non-compliant systems to be upgraded
- Available in all RAL colours to contrast with the surroundings
- A flexible system that can accommodate on-site variations
- Cost effective to install – welding, threading, or bolting required
Speed and Ease of Installation
Kee Access fittings have been designed to suit BS EN 10255 (ISO 65) steel tubes. Any Kee Access railing system can be easily installed with a hex tool and tube cutters. This means it can be easily assembled without specialised workers or equipment, saving you both time and money.
Kee Access is the leading handrail safety solution compliant with legislation covering disability access. DDA Kee Access handrail systems last for decades and can withstand harsh environments. Components are hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and TUV approved.
Thanks to Kee Systems, the station became a safe and accessible to everybody with a disability, whether it be a physical disability, or visually impaired; the uninterrupted assistance of the handrail allows them to manoeuvre obstacles such as inclines and stairwells safely.
