Installation of a Bespoke Roof Guardrail System
When a school in Wolverhampton needed an overhaul of their existing fall prevention system, Kee Systems were asked for a fall arrest solution. Here’s how our experts tackled the project, from site survey, identification of hazards and recommendation, to installing a collective fall protection solution for their roof.
The Project: an overhaul of an existing safe access system
Kee Systems attended a site survey request with the Director of a different school in the Wolverhampton area in March.
Following the survey, we received an out of hours call from the Director explaining that he had a second school that required a refurbishment of their existing safe access systems, and he requested a meeting on site to discuss their options.
When accessing the area, it was clear that the system had been installed for Fall Arrest purposes, however it was not fit for purpose because the roof was only 3.3m above the ground.
The rest of the roof was investigated and a number of other hazards were identified, including fragile roof lights and exposed edges.
The Solution: Kee Guard, Kee Guard for limited spaces & Kee Dome
Following the survey, Kee Systems provided a PowerPoint Presentation for the client, highlighting the hazards on the main roof and aligning them with the Health & Safety Objectives.
Options were provided for each category of Hazard, and the recommendation to install collective fall protection for their roof was emphasised.

After continual conversations and follow ups with the Director of the school, we received the call that the client had issued an order and we were invited to site for a pre-start meeting with all stakeholders in June.
Details were discussed, site logistics, timeframes, and technical information was handed over to the school and a final walk around of the site was completed, providing assurance to the client.

Kee Guard, Kee Guard for limited spaces & Kee Dome: Customer’s benefits
Kee Guard, Kee Guard limited space, & Kee Dome Skylight protection are free-standing systems, ensuring no waterproofing or penetration of the existing roof membrane was required.
Both Kee Guard systems have been installed to BS 13700:2021 which provides the client
peace of mind that the guardrail has been tailored to their specific site requirements.
Kee Guard for limited spaces utilises space saving weights which provides unobstructed walkways between roof lights at the school
The installation of collective protection enables staff to access the roof with minimal PPE, training, and
without a rescue plan reducing the liability risk.

Kee Systems’ ability to be flexible and provide excellent customer service enabled the initial opportunity
to get to site with the Director of the business.
Listening to the client’s Health & Safety concerns enabled Kee Systems to align the proposal with their
requirements and provide value throughout the sales process.
The project was completed on time and to the customer’s satisfaction.
